TOBEY+DAVIS & SMITHGROUP JJR PERIOD

Responsible for the Interior Studio design during for more than nine years, I had the duty to foster a mentoring design attitude among all the Studios.

 

I had a key role generating design concepts and providing firm design oversight as a member of the firm's National Design Committee.

 

In addition, I coordinated marketing strategy, gathered, and pursued leads.

 

Tobey+Davis merged with SMITHGROUP JJR  in 2000.

Environmental Learning Center Botanical Garden

 

Role: As lead designer I oversaw the project and was responsible for all design detailing. The project was aborted by lack of funding; only the surrounding walls and garden features was built.

 

GSF: 700 SQ FT

 

 

New Interpretive / Visitor Center at the Normandy American Cemetery, Omaha Beach,France

 

Role: I gathered marketing information, structured team with Architecture Studio  and JACOBS Engineering in Paris.

As a team member for the design competition with the Design Studio, I

coordinated efforts with oversea teams. SmithGroupJJR was awarded the new visitor education center for this World War II American Cemetery again the two other finalists: I.M. Pei and Michael Grave teams.

 

 

 

 

NORMANDY AMERICAN CEMETERY OMAHA BEACH FRANCE

New Interpretive / Visitor Center at the Normandy American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, France

 

The Cemetery and Memorial are situated on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach and the English Channel in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, site of the June 6, 1944 D-Day landings.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Interpretive Exhibit,

Phase 2

 

Backdrop exhibit design dedicated to John F. Kennedy in the Grand Foyer of the Opera House.

 

Role: Principal Project Designer. Tobey+ Davis.

 

 

THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ART WASHINGTON DC

 

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing ADA ramps, Phase 3

 

Implementation of ADA access ramps  in the Grand Foyer for the three theaters.

Role: Principal Project Designer. Tobey+ Davis.

 

 

 

 

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Millennium Renovation, Washington, DC Information and ALD Desks. Phase 4

 

Main information and ALD desk, interactive communication panels and mobile furniture.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Millennium Renovation, Washington, DC Publics Spaces Renovation Phase 1.

 

Complete renovation of the grand Foyer, Hall of States and Nations and all tiers of the three theaters. Designed new custom carpet and monumental draperies design with Knoll studio collaboration.

DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WASHINGTON DC

 

Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington, DC

 

Expansion of existing headquarters facility at Bolling Air Force Base. This project is a full service build-to-suit with architecture, interiors, and engineering. Developed program and design documents for SCIF office space and state-of-the-art conferencing facilities SmithGroupJJR.

 

Role: Principal Interior Designer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

UMBC UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND

 

University of Maryland, UMBC, Thurgood Marshall law Library, Baltimore, MD

 

Furniture design of reading table, study carrel, with custom reading table light fixture.

Principal Designer.

 

Reading table and study carrel received Award of best wood connection by AWI.

 

 

FEATURE OFFICE SPACE

 

NCCAM, National Center of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, NIH, Bethesda MD.

 

These new offices include Executive, Research and Training. The mission was to create offices that reflected the organization’s “ground-breaking” research as well as Dr. Strauss’ desire to use the design of the space to change the way in which NCCAM’s professionals worked; encouraging more interaction and collaboration. Designer in charge. IIDA Award.2003.
